Our management team and many employees were pioneers in the invention and development of OCT while with MIT, Harvard Universtiy, Lincoln Laboratory and Carl Zeiss, Inc. Company executives and staff also have a wealth of heathcare and medical device innovation experience with companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, AVE, Goodman Medical and C.R. Bard.
David Kolstad
President & CEO
Mr. Kolstad joined LightLab Imaging in 2008. He brings over 18 years of imaging and cardiac medical device experience to the business. Mr. Kolstad initially served as Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development of LightLab Imaging from 1999 – 2004. He has provided senior management leadership for corporate strategy, marketing, business development, product and general management to large and small businesses. His experience includes senior management positions with Fortune 500 companies, Hewlett-Packard and General Electric, as well as venture and corporate backed start-ups. Mr. Kolstad received his MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth and his BS in Chemical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Kevin Librett
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Librett joined LightLab Imaging in 2003, initially serving as Vice President of Operations, and then as Chief Operating Officer from July, 2004. He came to LightLab from Cambridge Heart where he held several key positions in the company’s research and development area including Vice President of Research and Development. Mr. Librett holds an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. degree in Biophysics from the University of Connecticut.
Warren (Renny) Clark III
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Clark joined LightLab Imaging in 2008. He brings over 20 years of financial experience to the Company. Prior to joining LightLab, Mr. Clark held several leadership positions with Boston Scientific, including Vice President and Controller, Cardiovascular Division. Previous experience also includes financial reporting and analysis with the Imaging Systems division of Hewlett-Packard Company and corporate lending at the Chase Manhattan Bank. Mr. Clark received a BA in Political Studies from Pitzer College and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Joseph M. Schmitt, PhD
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Schmitt joined LightLab Imaging in 2000. He came to LightLab from Mallinckrodt Corporation where he was a Staff Scientist leading development for non-invasive blood monitoring utilizing optical technologies. Previous experience also includes Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a Senior Staff Fellow in the Lasers and Modern Optics Group of the National Institute of Health, co-founding a laboratory dedicated to developing technologies for non-invasive medical diagnosis. Dr. Schmitt has further worked as a consultant to organizations such as Project Hope and the World Health Organization. Dr. Schmitt received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, California and his B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Nathan Harris
Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Mr. Harris joined LightLab Imaging in 2009. He came from CAS Medical Systems, Inc. where he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Previous experience also includes Vice President of US Sales and Global Marketing at Salient Surgical Technologies (formerly TissueLink), and the National Sales Director of the Electrophysiology Division and Business Director of the Pacing Division of Medtronic, Inc. Mr. Harris has also held various marketing, sales and operations positions with Medtronic, Inc., Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc. (Guidant), and Honeywell, Inc. He is a graduate of the College of New Jersey with a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, The Executive Program at Darden University and a M.B.A. graduate of St. Thomas University.
Doug Woodruff
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance/Clinical Affairs
Mr. Woodruff joined LightLab Imaging in 2009. He comes to LightLab Imaging with over 20 years of quality and regulatory experience. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Woodruff held leadership positions with OmniGuide, Animas Corporation, Datascope, MedSource, and Boston Scientific. Mr. Woodruff received both a BS in Engineering and an MS in Engineering from Washington State University.

Professor James Fujimoto
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Research Laboratory of Electronics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
James G. Fujimoto obtained his bachelors, masters, and doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1979, 1981, and 1984 respectively. Since 1985 he has been a member of MIT faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research interests include the development and application of femtosecond laser technology and studies of ultrafast phenomena. He is also active in biomedical optics, including the development of optical coherence tomography imaging.
Dr. Fujimoto was awarded the Baker Award of the National Academy of Sciences in 1990, the Discover Magazine Award for Technological Innovation in medical diagnostics in 1999, and was co-recipient of the Rank Prize in Optoelectronics in 2002. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2001, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002, and the National Academy of Sciences of 2006. Dr. Fujimoto is a Fellow of the OSA, APS, and IEEE. He was program co-chair for the Conference on Lasers and Electro Optics CLEO in 2002 and general co-chair for CLEO in 2004. Dr. Fujimoto has been general co-chair of the SPIE BIOS symposium since 2003 and is co-chair of the conference Coherence Domain Optical Methods in Biomedical Science and Clinical Applications since 2000. He was also co-chair of the European Conferences on Biomedical Optics in 2005. Dr. Fujimoto was a member of the board of directors of the Optical Society of America from 2000 to 2003.
Dr. Fujimoto was co-founder of Advanced Ophthalmic Devices, the company that transferred OCT to Carl Zeiss for ophthalmic imaging and co-founder of LightLabs Imaging, a joint venture with Carl Zeiss in the area of endoscopic and cardiovascular OCT imaging that was acquired by Goodman, Ltd. in 2002.
